One person was killed and three others were wounded in a Saturday night shooting in Paterson, according to City Councilman Luis Velez.

A heavy law enforcement presence comprised of the Paterson Police Department and Passaic County Prosecutor's Office was present at the active crime scene in the area of East 29th Street and 10th Avenue.

A children's birthday party was reportedly taking place nearby at the time. Witnesses told News 12 they heard when multiple rounds were fired and ran inside for cover.

Police were seen putting down several evidence markers at the crime scene.

"I can confirm that four people have been shot. Unfortunately we have four victims. We have officers at the hospital, we're monitoring their condition," said Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh.

According to councilman Velez, all the victims are under 25-years-old.

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office is expected to provide further information.
