At least five firefighters were hospitalized after a fire erupted at a historic church in Astoria, the FDNY says.

Crews responded to 27-21 12th St. just after 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

Fire officials say the blaze escalated to a fifth-alarm fire just over an hour later.

The extent of the firefighters' injuries was not immediately made available.
