A police pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies ended safely in Cortlandt Thursday afternoon after officers responding to a mental health call tracked down a driver who allegedly fled from police.
According to Yorktown Police, officers were responding to a mental health-related incident around 3:30 p.m. when they located a vehicle on Route 6 in Yorktown. Police said the driver fled after officers attempted a traffic stop.
The vehicle was later spotted in Cortlandt, where police said the driver showed them a knife and continued to drive. Authorities said the pursuit ended on West Brook Drive, where the man allegedly threatened law enforcement officers with the knife.
After several minutes, officers were able to convince the man to drop the weapon and exit the vehicle, police said.
One witness watched the pursuit come to an end.
"After I saw them for a third time, I was like, this has to be somebody who they want to pull over. I was just a little confused by the whole situation," said Laurel Rosario.
Police said the man was taken to a local hospital for evaluation without incident. No injuries were reported.
