Joseph Chisholm of Stratford is thanking the nonprofit Chick Rosnick Boxing Club for teaching him how to succeed both in and out of the ring.
Chisholm is well known for his hard work and humble demeanor and has the kind of lightning speed and raw power that enhances his reputation as a formidable opponent.
He became a professional boxer two years ago after an amateur run punctuated by several national titles.
Joseph talks openly about a mistake he made as a juvenile, being caught in a car where somebody had a gun. However, his dad and manager, Martin Chisholm, says the most important part of that story is how his son rose above that mistake and used it to become a better person and professional athlete.
"Seeing my son in the courtroom the day that I saw my son, I was quite broken and I was devastated. As a father, I was very lost; but now, fast forward 2 1/2 years later, to seeing him come through that, yes, I'm very grateful to God, very grateful." Martin stated.
Joseph had his ninth fight at Mohegan this weekend, and he tells News 12 Connecticut he is just getting started.
