Bronx man pepper sprays officer after $12 shoplifting attempt
A Bronx man is accused of turning a $12 shoplifting attempt into a felony chase.
Yonkers police posted a video on Facebook saying 46-year-old Fernando Rivera stole a piece of jewelry from the TJ Maxx store at Cross County, then took off running when he was confronted.
Investigators say he pepper sprayed an officer during the chase, but the officer fought through it, deployed her taser, and took him into custody.
Police recovered the stolen jewelry, the pepper spray and drug paraphernalia.
Rivera now faces a long list of charges.
