Some residents living near a popular lakeside bar in Mahopac say noise and other disturbances have become increasingly difficult to live with this summer.

According to neighbors, loud outdoor music and late-night activity at Friends Waterfront Bar and Grill have sparked complaints, prompting repeated responses from local police.

The bar is located at 156 East Lake Blvd. along Lake Mahopac, near residential homes and the Mahopac VFW Post 5491.

Residents who live nearby told News 12 that amplified outdoor music has become a frequent source of frustration.

"It's not that they're utilizing amplified music, it's that they're utilizing it outside of the facility," said Laura Spallina, of Mahopac.

She said the music can be so loud that walls shake and residents are sometimes kept awake at night.

Neighbor Angela Vicario said noise is not the only issue. She alleges that on recent weekends she has witnessed disorderly behavior in the area, including people entering her property and a large fight that required police intervention.

"Saturday night I had a brawl. A literal brawl, right here in my driveway," Vicario said.

Despite their concerns, residents interviewed by News 12 said they are not seeking to have the business shut down.

Instead, they would like to see live music moved indoors and increased enforcement to address late-night issues.

Local patron John Ayling described the venue as a positive gathering place for the community, saying it is nice to have somewhere nearby for residents to meet and socialize.

According to Carmel Police Chief Anthony Hoffmann, officers have responded to approximately 16 noise complaints involving the establishment.

Hoffmann said roughly 10 court summonses related to those complaints have been issued and remain pending.

Police also confirmed they have received complaints regarding alleged underage drinking.

The department is exploring possible referrals to the State Liquor Authority and has increased patrols in the area. Officials are also considering parking-related measures along the roadway near the bar.

News 12 contacted management at Friends Waterfront Bar and Grill for comment, but representatives declined to be interviewed.
