Periods of heavy precipitation in Rockland County Thursday created hazardous conditions and prompted utility and emergency responses in several communities.

Weather conditions were evident throughout the county, from New City to Nyack, as steady rain moved through the area.

In New City, Orange & Rockland crews responded to a branch that caught fire near Jodi Lane and Broward Drive. Workers cut down the damaged branch hanging over a utility line after the fire department had extinguished the flame.

Even afterward, a utility worker was seen with a fire extinguisher while trimming the tree.

According to Orange & Rockland, about 89 customers in New City were without power at one point as crews worked to address the situation.

A Rockland County official also reported a weather-related crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Stony Point.

The official said a vehicle went off the road, likely because of the weather conditions.

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle without assistance and suffered minor injuries.
