The mayor of Ossining says a man was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents across the street from a wake for a teen killed in a recent crash.

The incident happened near the Ossining High School.

Mayor Rika Levin says the man was not attending the wake but was arrested in the vicinity.

The wake was for 18-year-old Kevin Zhagui-Moroch, a recent high school graduate who was killed in a crash in Wallkill on Monday.

An Ossining High School soccer game was also underway.

"There is a time and place for federal law enforcement to carry out its responsibilities. Conducting an ICE operation in the immediate vicinity of a grieving family, our high school students, and a school athletic event—without any advance notification to local officials or the school district—was deeply upsetting and, in my view, unnecessarily disruptive to our community,” Levin wrote in a statement.

The mayor says the man was wanted on previous outstanding criminal charges. The identity of the man arrested was not released.
