A new business in Dobbs Ferry is catering to the growing demand for alcohol-free beverages. It's Westchester County's first spirit-free bottle shop.
Located on Cedar Street, DrySpace offers dozens of spirit-free options, including nonalcoholic beer, wine, bourbon, gin and ready-to-drink mocktails. The bottle shop was opened by co-owners Molly and Matt Ferguson, who say consumers are increasingly looking for alternatives to traditional alcoholic drinks.
“I have been sober for 18 years. When I quit drinking, we had no options,” Molly Ferguson said.
The opening comes as alcohol consumption trends continue to shift. According to Gallup, 54% of Americans currently drink alcohol, the lowest rate recorded since 1939. At the same time, sales of nonalcoholic beverages have surpassed $1 billion, growing 22% year over year, according to NielsenIQ.
“We've had a wide range of customers who've come in. Some have no idea about the options out there, have never had or seen any nonalcoholic options,” said Matt Ferguson.
To help customers find products they enjoy, DrySpace offers tastings of many of the beverages it carries. The owners say the goal is to help customers discover alcohol-free drinks that suit their tastes.
