An emu decided that life was too long to stay cooped up and escaped from a local petting zoo on Saturday morning, according to the Town of Ramapo Police Department.
The unusual encounter happened at around 8:45 a.m.
Officers used a drone to track the escapee - or "feathery fugitive," in the words of Ramapo Police.
Still shots from the drone show the large bird standing in the middle of the street, surrounded by officers.
Police say those officers successfully captured the emu. The runaway bird was returned to the zoo safely.
No one was hurt during the unusual incident.
The name and address of the petting zoo were not immediately known.
