The damage from the nor’easter along the Jersey Shore is still being assessed, but beach erosion in Manasquan is clearly visible.

The storm stripped away sand that had covered the borough’s more than 80-year-old groin system, which was designed to reduce beach erosion.

The groins were covered with sand in the late 1990s, but they become exposed during storms.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is still working on a report that will detail how much damage was done to each beach.

The state will work with local and federal partners to determine what recovery efforts will look like.
