A shocking discovery was made inside a quiet North Shore Nassau County park.
Nassau County Police Homicide Squad Detectives are investigating after human skeletal remains were found in a wooded area of Plandome Pond Park in Manhasset around 5:45 p.m. yesterday.
Investigators haven't said who made the discovery, the condition of the remains, or if they believe criminality was involved.
The park is located at 192 Lindberg St. and is owned by the Town of North Hempstead.
This morning, North Hempstead Public Safety officers were standing guard at all three entrances to the park along North Bourndale Road, South Bourndale Road and Bridge Road.
Several town vehicles were inside the park as well.
A North Hempstead Town spokesperson told News 12 in a statement, "Supervisor DeSena is aware of the situation and has been in close communication with the Nassau County Police Department throughout. Plandome Pond Park will remain closed until the investigation is concluded."
The town describes the facility as a passive park that offers residents a peaceful setting featuring a tranquil pond, paved walkways and benches for relaxation.
Several homes back up to the West of the park and the Long Island Rail Road tracks for the Port Washington line run along the East.
News 12 reached out to Nassau County police for more information and is waiting to hear back.
The investigation is ongoing.
