The family of 21-year-old Cody Velasco expressed outrage after an 18-year-old driver received three years of unsupervised probation and no prison time for a deadly July 2024 motorcycle crash in Shelton.

Anthony Bezzelli was convicted of negligent homicide in Derby Superior Court after his northbound car struck Velasco’s motorcycle at Walnut Tree Hill Road and Thompson Street.

Velasco’s relatives condemned the lack of jail time or a license suspension as a complete failure of the justice system.

Defense attorney Paul Ganim defended the outcome, noting that Bezzelli immediately called emergency services and had no intent to harm anyone during the tragic event.

Left devastated by the ruling, the Velasco family continues to demand accountability for the young man they affectionately remember as "sweet Cody."
