2nd probable swine flu case turns up in Orange Co.
Health officials have identified another probable case of swine flu in Orange County Thursday, bringing the total to two.
Rockland County Health Commissioner Dr. Jean Hudson says the patient is recovering at home after being treated for several days for flu-like symptoms.
"He's isolated at home and had no complications that we are aware [of]," Hudson says.
The unidentified male patient recently returned from a trip to Mexico, as did a worker at Valley View nursing home in Goshen, who also has a probable case of the swine flu.
"People are concerned," says Phil Pascocello, of Valley View. "So we are reaching out and calling every family member."
Susan Hawvermale, whose 92-year-old mother is an Alzheimer's patient at the Goshen nursing home, says the flu scare will not prevent her from visiting.
"I really want to see my mother, so I am going to just go in and see her despite the precautions, which I already know about," Hawvermale says.
In Rockland County, one more suspected case of swine flu was announced Thursday in addition to two others that were reported earlier in the week.
The Centers for Disease Control reported the number of swine flu cases in the United States has topped 100, with confirmed cases in at least 11 states.
Some employees of the World Bank in Washington, D.C., were asked to work from home after one of their colleagues was preliminarily diagnosed with swine flu. Scores of schools have been closed around the country as a precaution against the spread of swine flu.
