3 charged after loaded glock, suspected fentanyl seized during traffic stop in the City of Poughkeepsie

Three people were arrested and charged after police seized a loaded Glock 17, 9mm handgun and suspected fentanyl during a traffic stop Wednesday in the City of Poughkeepsie, according to New York State Troopers.
Members of the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) pulled the vehicle over near North Hamilton Street just before 5:45 p.m. Officials say a state police K-9 detected narcotics from outside the car during the stop.
The K-9's alert granted officers probable cause to search the car, where they found the loaded gun and multiple items containing the suspected fentanyl, according to police.
The driver, 40-year-old Peter L. Nekos and both passengers, Zaire J. Birks, 26, and Samantha N. O’Donnell, 27, were each charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Police say Birks, of Poughkeepsie, faces a slew of additional gun-related charges.
Nekos and O’Donnell, both of West Hurley, were released and are expected to return to the City of Poughkeepsie Court on Sept. 24.
Birks was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center.
