World Atlas has identified several small towns in the area as some of the best places for retirement in the state.

Of the nine New York towns listed, three are in the Hudson Valley: Stony Point, Cold Spring and Carmel.

The remaining five towns on the list are Penn Yan, Skaneateles, Guilderland, Cooperstown, and Oswego.

The study looked at numerous indicators, including job market, average homeowner and renter costs, percentage of residents in poverty, and quality of public schools.
