3 injured as state police car hit by out-of-control vehicle
Three people were injured when an out-of-control car smashed into a state police car on I-87 in the town of Ulster.
State police say Trooper James J. Adams was inside his patrol car on the shoulder of the highway investigating an unrelated crash in the area of the Kingston exit when a 2020 Mini Cooper driven by Katherine Pinedo, 33, of Albany, lost control while traveling in the left lane and hit the troop car from behind.
Trooper Adams, a seven-year veteran, was taken to Kingston Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Two passengers in the Mini Cooper, 36-year-old Erika Pinedo, and Telmo Pinedo, 64, of Sunrise, Florida, were also taken to Kingston Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the vehicle in the initial crash was not injured.
State Police would like to remind drivers to slow down and move over when emergency and construction vehicles are working on the highway.
