A five-alarm fire burned for hours at a residential building in Yonkers, but was finally contained Monday evening. 

Fire officials say the call came in around 1:30 p.m. of an apartment building fire at 24 Caryl Ave.

They say they arrived to heavy fire showing from multiple windows on the sixth floor, which is the top floor of the apartment building.

News 12 was told at least 100 residents live there and are now displaced.

Fire officials say they were able to save at least one woman on the top floor and a few pets.

Firefighters tried to put out the flames from the inside for a while but had to evacuate as the fire kept growing.

They say the fire went from a typical structure fire call to a four-alarm fire in an hour and a half - then to five alarms.

News 12 was told that fire alarms were working at the time of the incident.
