Five puppies were rescued from a tightly sealed shipping container found near a dumpster on the side of I-84 in Bedford on Monday.
A garbage man who was taking out the trash from the dumpster said he heard whimpering coming from the airtight container. He discovered the puppies and called the police, who brought them to the Adopt-A-Dog shelter in Armonk. They think the puppies had been stuck in that container for at least 24 hours.
It is estimated that the puppies are between 6 months and 1 year old, They are incredibly emaciated, but they're ready to start their road to recovery, and into a warm bed.
"We are really looking for foster homes, eventually adopters for them, that understand that they will need a little bit of a patient home, they do take a minute to warm up, they're a little hesitant at first, but then the'yll shower you with kisses and cuddles once they know they can trust you, said Maddie Weiser, a volunteer at Adopt-A-Dog.
Donations to Adopt-A-Dog can be made on its website.
