News 12 has learned that five schools in the East Ramapo school district do not have working kitchens as a result of ongoing renovations.
The East Ramapo School District says that the kitchens at Elmwood Elementary, Hempstead Elementary, Margetts Elementary, Chestnut Ridge Middle School and Pomona Middle School are being renovated with state funding.

As News 12 previously reported, students and parents in the district are not happy with the quality of prepackaged meals being given.
It was a topic raised by the community at a school board meeting earlier this month.
News 12 has learned from the district that five of the schools do not have working kitchens because of ongoing renovations.
The superintendent said in a statement, "While these facilities upgrades continue, nutritious meals are being prepared by our food service provider at a central location and delivered to students daily. As always, the health and wellness of our students is our top priority.”
The food is being described differently by students.
"For example, they give like cheese sticks, they have mold inside. Or apples that are like what my daughter explains it, 'they're soggy, mommy,'" says Ana Maeda, community advocate.
There's no word from the school district on when kitchen renovations will be complete.
