A 56-year-old woman died after falling into a manhole in Midtown Manhattan late Monday night.
The incident happened just before 11:30 p.m. on 5th Avenue, police said.
The woman stepped out of her car and walked into an uncovered manhole, according to police.
Officers said she was unconscious and unresponsive when they arrived.
She was taken to Cornell Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
No arrests have been made.
The woman’s identity has not been released. Unconfirmed reports say she may be from Westchester.
