Most of the Yonkers City Council is calling for an investigation into one of its own members.

Six of the seven Yonkers City Council members are calling on the city's inspector general to investigate misconduct allegations against Council President Mike Khader.

In a letter, the council outlined several concerns.

One is a possible ethics violation between Khader and his legal counsel Jeffrey Buss involving a quid pro quo relationship.

The second involves allegations of a hostile work environment from an ex-employee.

Inspector General Liam McLaughlin confirms he's received the letter and is looking into the next steps.

"Some serious allegations have been put forth and I think it's our responsibility as servants of the city to make sure that the truth is exactly what the public receives," says the council's Majority Leader, Corazon Pineda.

Khader was unavailable for an interview and sent the following statement: "The council has every right to investigate as they deem necessary, and I fully intend to cooperate. Unfortunately, this is the par for the course for anyone who is politically independent in Yonkers."

Khader faces several Democratic primary challengers later this year when he's up for reelection.
