A 74-year-old man who was hit by a car on the Cross County Parkway in Mount Vernon has died.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon near the Mount Vernon Footbridge. Officials say Samuel Wallace had walked across the right and center westbound lanes and was walking in the left lane when he was hit.
The reason for Wallace walking on the parkway is unclear.
Wallace died at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx last night. The driver is cooperating with police, and no charges have been filed.
