A Monroe woman has been arrested for animal cruelty and failure to provide proper sustenance as part of a long-running investigation that officials say most recently led to the seizure of 84 animals from a Warwick property.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says the case began in 2024, when complaints of animal neglect first surfaced at the property on Old Dutch Hollow Road. Linda Hickey, 62, was arrested Aug. 12 in connection to that earlier complaint.
Last week, investigators returned with new search warrants as part of their ongoing probe. Deputies said when they returned Sept. 17 the smell of urine and feces was overwhelming, and cages were stacked inside. That search led to 66 animals being seized, including pets, farm animals, and exotics such as a wallaby, raccoon, and tortoises.
A second search on Sept. 19 uncovered 18 more animals — including pigs and chickens — bringing the total to 84. The Warwick Building Inspector later condemned the property.
Authorities also noted that several animals previously documented at the site — including an emu, swan, two geese, and four peafowl — were missing when they returned and remain unaccounted for.
“This case highlights the importance of community partnerships in combating animal neglect,” Sheriff Paul Arteta said, crediting the Warwick Valley Humane Society and Animal Nation for helping remove and care for the animals.

Hickey was released on an appearance ticket, according to the sheriff's office.
