The families of the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks are calling on former President Donald Trump to cancel a golf tournament scheduled for Friday at his golf club in Bedminster.

The families say that the Saudi Arabia government bankrolls the new golf league.

“My family, we’ve never been the same since 9/11,” says Dennis McGinley.

McGinley’s brother, David, was killed in the 2001 attack. He says it tore a hole in his family.

“Our family was devastated. We grew up – we were a very close-knit, tight family. Five boys – best friends,” says McGinley.

More than 20 years later, he says those wounds have been reopened by the former president.

“It’s infuriating. We have no words. It is so callous and so cruel – especially for a former president,” McGinley says.

Trump’s golf club in Bedminster is playing host to the LIV Golf tournament. It is sponsored by a wealth fund controlled by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, who President Joe Biden met with in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last week.

“We now have FBI documents that state Saudi government officials aided and abetted these hijackers when they were in this country,” McGinley says.

Documents released by the FBI last November show an alleged Saudi spy who provided "significant logistic support" to at least two of the 9/11 hijackers as they were planning the attack.

“He's setting up bank accounts for the hijackers, getting them apartments, getting them English lessons, flight lessons,” McGinley says.

McGinley says he voted for Trump, but says the former president lied when he promised in 2019 to make public documents detailing the Saudi role in assisting al Qaeda operatives. Biden was the one who ordered the documents released.

“The 9/11 community has had to grow a thick skin over the last 21 years. This one really hurts,” McGinley says. “Enough. This national nightmare needs to end.”

Trump has urged PGA tour golfers to change their affiliation to LIV. The PGA dropped Trump's golf course as host of its championship following the January 2021 insurrection on Capitol Hill.
