It is the beginning of a new era in Mount Vernon as a landmark once left to neglect and decay has been rebuilt and is set to reopen later this month.
Memorial Field was once the pride of the city, but the stadium was in need of major renovations when it closed in 2010.
A project that should have taken a few years ended up taking more than a decade.
"When we lost that, a lot more things started happening here in Mount Vernon, and the safety was a big issue for us because we didn't have a safe haven for us," says Mount Vernon head football coach Mark Murray.
What delayed the project and what will you be able to do there once it opens? Beginning this Wednesday on the News at 10, Nadia Galindo brings us a special three-part series on the history of Memorial Field and an exclusive tour of the new stadium.
