The Somers High School community gathered in Carmel Sunday for a prayer vigil for football coach Steve McNamara, who is now facing a challenging recovery after undergoing heart transplant surgery.

"A Prayer Vigil for Steve" was held at the Mahopac Chamber Community Park.

McNamara, 47, underwent the surgery after he was diagnosed with cardio myopathy, a disease of the heart muscle that can lead to heart failure. His wife, Lisa, was overcome with emotion at the turnout and show of support for her husband and family.

The high school football players were also among many supporters who said they owed so much to their beloved coach.
