The city of Newburgh is reeling from seven shootings in seven days - and activists are sending out a desperate plea for help.

The last shooting happened just before 6 a.m. Tuesday on Courtney Avenue, according to police.

Last week, four teens were shot on the street by their classmates.

Efforts to crack down on rising crime are facing criticism from the community.

Activists like Nicki Boygan insist more needs to be done

"We need more police patrol. We need more respect. We need police to police the neighborhood and know who lives in the neighborhood. We need help," says Boygan.

News 12 witnessed firsthand just how nervous people are in the community. There was supposed to be a protest involving dozens of people in the community to speak out against all the violence they're seeing, but News 12 was that told out of fear, no one showed up.

Local, state and federal politicians are making a push to get the city more money. But before that, Pastor Dhasan McComb says there needs to be communitywide conversations about how to quell the violence

"We need to bring everyone in charge; pastors, chiefs of police, mayor, commissioner. I think we all need to come to the table and sit down and let's have a discussion," says McComb.

Until that happens, Pastor Mccomb says he and Boygan will be in the streets doing their part to help their neighbors feel more at ease in that city they live.
