People in the Hudson Valley are working to put a stop to current plans to discharge 1 million gallons of contaminated radioactive waste into the Hudson River from the Indian Point power plant.
Community advocates want municipalities to pass resolutions to stop what they call waste dumping.
Health and environmental experts met with state lawmakers and Hudson Valley residents on Thursday night for a second virtual forum.
The main concern has been a radioactive substance called tritium. Energy consultant and former Indian Point employee Paul Blanche say if tritium levels stay beneath the federal government's limits, it should not harm wildlife or people.
Experts at the meeting say legal levels of contaminants do not mean it's safe  - and Holtec needs to explore other waste disposal options.
