Those who help unaccompanied migrant children fleeing Central America here in the borough say more money is needed to continue their efforts.
Immigration advocates had a chance to sound off Tuesday at a public hearing organized by some state Assembly members.
Since Oct. 1, over 50,000 immigrant children have crossed the border from Mexico into the United States to flee violence and poverty.
Thousands of the immigrant children eventually end up in New York state and the city.
Advocates say more needs to be done for the children beyond short-term housing in shelters. They say more funding is needed for legal, medical and social services.
As many as 7,000 more unaccompanied children are expected in the state through the end of the year.
