Arrest made after boat capsize near Statue of Liberty kills woman, infant

A woman and infant are dead and 12 people were rescued after a boat capsized near the Statue of Liberty Saturday night, according to the NYPD.

USCG investigators are also determining whether the operation constitutes an "illegal charter operation" and are coordinating efforts with the NYPD.
Police responded to a 911 call for an overturned vessel near Liberty Island at 10:25 p.m. on Aug. 8.
During the search, Harbor Unit officers found a 27-year-old woman and a 5-month-old baby in the water.
They were transported to NYU Langone Hospital, where both were pronounced dead.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life last night, and our thoughts are with the victims' family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time," said Captain Doreen McCarthy, the Coast Guard Sector New York Commander.
It is unclear at this time what caused the boat to capsize.
