A fire that started in the basement of a Borough Park building spread to the first floor and brought a large emergency response Tuesday night.
It happened just before 7:45 p.m. at 6007 Fort Hamilton Parkway.
Fire officials say the flames began in the basement and quickly moved up into the first floor of the three-story building. The building has businesses on the lower levels with people living above.
Video from the scene shows thick smoke pouring out of the building and into the air, visible from blocks away.
Dozens of firefighters and EMS crews responded and worked for hours to get the fire under control. The fire was brought under control just after 11 p.m.
Fire officials say six firefighters were checked out at the scene, and one was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
