Welcome back. We are still hanging out with the Godmother of Soul Patti labelle. That's right. And joining us is Charles. So who helped bring Patty's good life food products to our table? So, thank you so much for joining our conversation. Thank you for having me. Hello, Charles. How are you? Fabulous, darling. No, Charles. We've been having a good time and we wanna talk more about all the products you guys have because it started out with like barbecue sauces and things like that. What made you all start to actually produce real food? Well, you know, the thing is we've been around Miss Labelle forever and we've had her cooking and the goal was always to bring out the food. If you know anything about her, she's had best selling cookbooks before myself and Zuri and Alice got involved. So the goal was always to bring out the meals and have everybody enjoy what we've been enjoying our whole lives and have the masses enjoy. We started with the barbecue sauces and the hot sauces because it was organic. She's always carrying hot sauces in her bag and, and then if you, if you ever Googled her before the sweet potato pie came up, aside from the music, it was mac and cheese and sweet potato pie. So when we got the call from Walmart, we were ready, you know, and, and, and one thing that Miss Label always stresses is you never know when it's gonna happen, but be ready and we were ready for that. Now, I heard you're ready to make some type of announcement, but you didn't even tell us what it was beforehand. So I'm like, so, um aside from everything that we're doing in the big box retail stores, um it was important for us, um especially me as a parent, we are going to, we've done a deal with sex so and not just Sexo uh Sexo Magic, which is Magic Johnson's arm and we are going to be providing food for some of the biggest um H BC US um in the country. So Howard specifically Morehouse. So when you send your child off to school as I did mine two years ago, um and he, when he takes that walk and he's leaving, you know, that he's in good hands because guess Miss labelle's food in the cafeteria. So collard greens, Mac and Cheese, um cobbler, her Belgian waffles, her um syrups, everything that she makes everything that's in her cookbook, pretty much will be through Sexo Magic. And thank you for that relationship. Magic Johnson. And I think, you know, one of the things about it is not just feeding them, you're feeding them good quality food. Why is it? So for you to offer that at an affordable price, you have to, that, that's what I was about to say. It has to be an affordable price and it has to be quality food and that's all I do is quality food and I'll make sure you can afford it. You know, you have to take care of people in 2008. When we, um, started the, the business, there was the whole financial crash. And, um, when we started making the food, Miss label said, guys, look, here's my recipes. We wanna go to retail but it has to be affordable. People are, are struggling right now and that's really important to me. And that's why we chose Walmart as our first uh, retailer. Is it, is it just amazing. It is to think, you know, this, this idea of, of having this great meal and seeing what it's now about being house feeding so many people and they're coming back for seconds. I mean, you have to, if you, if you wanna get coming back and buy another one, you know, so that's important to me and now other entrepreneurs are looking up to you created the Z PAC firm. Tell us about that and how you're helping other entrepreneurs. Well, because I am in a great place. Uh, uh, the Brooklyn shop, Pals, um, Angela Lorena Garcia. Y Yes. Um Cardi B we're working with right now, which everyone is seeing all the, all the stuff that Mr Label and Cardi are doing together. I wanna say something about that. Historically Miss Label has always reached back as in, in the first segment. This is the same way, you know, she said Charles and Zuri and Alex. I wanna help other folks get into the big box store. So she gave us a mission and, and we're on it. So we find uh companies mostly minority but not always minority. So there's a company called Angela, which is a um cheesesteak company in Philadelphia that we, that's going into Walmart in August. Um So that's her mission. And when Miss Labelle, you know, when that the phone picks up and it says Patty labelle, she says Charles, what are we doing to help minority business? It's great to have my son, Zoi Charles and Alex as my boys that I beat. And so you better get it right and you better get it tonight, you know, so just having them and they, every time come through with everything I ever wanted everything. So I have a great team, which is amazing and I love how you were saying like Cardi B is your girl like that. And I'm sure for her to have that relationship and be able to, to speak to someone that you trust and you admire and have that kind of mentorship. That's what she said when she met me, you know. So now we're buddies, you know, and anything she needs, she got me. What is the business advice that you are giving her and other entrepreneurs out there? It's so many who have so many ideas. People come up to the front of my stage patty. Take these crab legs home and taste the season. I swear. I DJ DJ pack. Where, where did I just play New Jersey packs? So, the lady comes up with crabs. I said, Lord, how long have you been out the crabs in that? So she said, just take it. And I called her and said, yes, I did. I swear my niece ate the crabs. I ain't going out like that. But I tasted a little bit of the, don't tell nobody, but it's true because I didn't know. My niece said it's fabulous. I tasted a little bit of sauce and it was great. So I called her. She said you're calling me after your show, man. I said yes, honey, because I believe in your dream. I said, if I can help you, I will. So whenever people come up to me with anything that's sellable and that's good and you believe in it, don't let people tell you no. You know, so many people are told no. And then they stop, don't stop. Were we ever told real bad news? No, I mean, we, I mean, when you, we have a relationship with the heads of every major, including, uh, Doug mcmillan who's a great CEO at Walmart. And we very rarely sit in a meeting and get a no, but I mean, Miss Label comes up with great ideas. So, you know, we, we know what the goal is going to the meeting and what the goal is coming out of the meeting and, and we're 95% of the time. We, we're successful. Well, you might not be getting those, but a lot of people are. So, what do they do when they get? A no, they, they, they asked to give them, well, we, when they give a no, don't stop. You can't believe a no. You know, there's something called yes. And that yes is waiting for you. It's waiting to excel and I know it. So like I tell all the young girls who have products that come to be a lot of girls in show business. I said, get out there and work. It don't stop doing what you wanna do for yourself. And I hope you don't stop doing what you're doing. And I can't wait. We love it singing. Thank you. Thank you for having us. Thank you. Thank you so much.
