The City of Beacon is taking steps to reform its public safety as it announces the creation of a police advisory board made up of nine community members.

All nine members come from diverse backgrounds, ranging from religious leaders and veterans, to Beacon 4 Black Lives and more.

Beacon’s mayor tells News 12 he believes they will begin meeting as soon as next week to address a range of areas in the police department.

"How do we do the outreach for the police, not just in their day-to-day, 'I have to arrest you.' interactions. But in all the other interactions that can be positive for the community and to build bridges. Those are the kind of things we're looking toward," says Mayor Lee Kyriacou.
