A family-owned business that has served Yonkers for 75 years is closing its doors for good.

Grassy Sprain Paint & Hardware on Tuckahoe Road has been a staple in the community since it was founded in 1950 by the Speight family. The store has operated at its current location for the past 30 years.

Known for its personalized service, the store built a loyal customer base by helping people with whatever projects they were working on. The family says the decision to close comes as some members are ready to retire.

"I've been here for a long time, I loved every minute of it... still love every minute of it," said Rodney Speight.

"They were like family. As soon as you come in, they took care of you right away," said longtime customer Bruce Dejoseph.

The city recognized the owners on Thursday for their dedication to the community.

The store officially closes tomorrow.
