A special memorial is in the works for a Chester soldier who was killed during an explosion in Iraq.
According to the military, First Lieutenant Louis Allen and Captain Phillip Esposito, of Pearl River, were killed in June when a sergeant threw a grenade inside their quarters while both men were sleeping. Allen?s friends and colleagues from the Tuxedo Teachers Association are organizing a benefit at the Central Valley Golf Course to help his family keep his legacy alive.
Hundreds of gifts have been donated by local businesses for the tournament, raffle and dinner. The money raised will go to Allen?s widow and four children, and to creating a scholarship in his honor.
