Mount Pleasant officials returned to Thornwood's Carroll Park on Saturday, one day after dead Canadian geese in a pond tested positive for bird flu.

The town shut the park down out of an abundance of caution while the birds were being tested. Now that the results are in, Police Chief Paul Oliva shared if and when the park could reopen for residents.

"Under an abundance of caution, we're going to keep it closed until we know a little bit more about the situation and we're exploring ways of sanitizing the park right now," Oliva said.

Oliva said the town is still working with wildlife experts to keep other geese away from the pond. He encouraged people who see dead birds to report to the police.
