Today is the third and final day of this bitter cold and strong wind. That said, please dress in multiple layers and cover all your extremities as wind chills will range only from around five to 15 degrees. It is also important to limit the length of time you are outdoors to keep frostbite and hypothermia concerns at bay.
Wind gusts near 50 mph again most of the day are prompting an official wind advisory from the National Weather Service until 10 p.m. Scattered power outages will continue to be possible.
Tomorrow will feel like winter still and you will need to bundle up, but it definitely will be less harsh with wind chills closer to the upper 20s to near 30 degrees thanks to an increase in air temperature and less wind.
Saturday snow update:
This continues to look less and less like a big deal for the lower Hudson Valley with at worst up to around one inch of snow. Most areas likely stay around one-half inch or less with scattered light snow showers around midnight Friday night through around 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Some lingering flurries can persist after 8 a.m.
Local Impacts: Just like this past Monday's light snow, you will still need to be careful despite very low snow amounts. As we were reminded earlier in the week, it only takes a coating of snow to create icy, slippery and potentially dangerous travel conditions. This is especially true on any untreated areas. So, snow lovers - enjoy the little bit of snow, but don't get your hopes up for too much! Everyone should just use extra caution when traveling.
Some breaks of sun will be possible Saturday afternoon and then the rest of the weekend through most of next week looks dry. High temperatures will be seasonable - in the upper 30s - Sunday through Tuesday before turning colder for Wednesday and Thursday.
Important Ice Safety Warning:
Please remember to always check with local officials and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation with regards to ice fishing or heading out onto ice on any body of water. Ice thickness needs to be at least four inches to be safe to walk on. Anything less is extremely dangerous, and chances are you will fall through the ice. Be safe!
