In the wake of this week's blizzard, Rockland County has announced that it is over its 2010 budget for snow clearing.
The county used all 24 of its snowplows to clear the snow from its roads as fast as possible, but with the storm hitting on a Sunday, costs rose, leaving the county spending more than it allocated for the year.
Rockland County Highway Superintendent Skip Vezzetti says that the county spent approximately $130,000 and dumped more than 1,000 tons of salt, which represented a quarter of the salt allocated for the season.
He also mentioned that the county pays $68.66 per ton for salt, the highest in the state. He said he isn?t sure why the county pays the most.
