Hundreds of people in Goshen paid tribute Monday to a police sergeant who succumbed to cancer.
Police officers from all over the Hudson Valley led a somber procession outside St. John the Evangelist Church in a final salute to Blooming Grove Police Sgt. Matt Kelly.
Kelly, 35, started with the Blooming Grove Police Department in 2001. Inside the church, he was remembered as a caring, humble man who became a police officer in order to make a difference.
His mission was cut short when he succumbed to a two-year battle with cancer. Kelly leaves behind his wife Danielle and two young girls.
