Remnants of a 2020 Jeep Compass were still scattered along the curb Tuesday at Connecticut Avenue and Sixth Street on Bridgeport's East End, where the vehicle was allegedly torched on Dec. 3.
"A neighbor came banging on my front door around midnight and said somebody had just poured gasoline on my car and lit it on fire," the owner of the SUV told News 12.
She asked not to be identified.
"It's terrifying and I have no idea who would have done this to my car. I keep to myself and live a very quiet life here," she said.
The Bridgeport Police Detective Bureau and the local fire inspector are investigating the incident.
Councilman Ernie Newton, who represents the East End, encouraged anybody who can help police solve the case to call 203-576-TIPS.
"Arson is a very, very serious crime and we need to make sure this doesn't happen again," Newton said.
Newton described the incident as being "highly unusual" for the neighborhood.
