defendants in state prison has been released.
David Gilbert, 77, was
released last week from a state prison in Orange County.
MORE:
That according to the website
of the State Corrections Department.
Gilbert had been in prison for nearly 40 years for his role
in the 1981 robbery and shooting at the Nanuet
Mall, which left a guard and two Nyack police officers dead.
He was granted clemency just hours before Gov. Andrew Cuomo
left office.
The state parole approved his release last month.
The decision was denounced by Rockland officials as well as
relatives of the three victims.
Gilbert’s supporters noted he was remorseful over his
actions and was a changed man and was one of the oldest inmates in the state
prison system.
