As Tropical Storm Hanna makes its way up the East Coast toward New York, forecasters say some coastal communities in the Bronx will likely see flooding over the weekend.
According to the New York City Office of Emergency Management, Edgewater Park, Silver Beach, Locust, Clason Point and Throgs Neck can expect flooding as a result of the approaching storm.
Emergency management officials urge residents in those areas to prepare ahead of time. They advise people to find out the likelihood of flooding in their neighborhood, find the safest evacuation route, make lists of property and emergency contacts and have a packed bag ready.
According to News 12 The Bronx meteorologist Jay Engle, Hanna is packing winds around 30 mph. The storm is currently 300 miles south of Wilmington, N.C. It is later expected to proceed up the East Coast.
Forecasters predict that Hanna will impact parts of New York on Saturday, bringing showers and torrential rain.
A flood watch is in effect for Saturday afternoon through late Saturday night as the area may experience 5 inches of rainfall and winds of up to 40 mph. More downpours are possible Sunday morning, with gradual clearing in the afternoon.
Many city agencies are also preparing for Hanna. Con Edison says they?re ready to dispatch extra crews to the borough should there be any power outages.
