Bronx parents rallied at City Hall Thursday to keep more than 100 city day care centers from closing.
The city is transferring control of day care programs from the Administration for Children?s Services to the Department of Youth and Community Development. According to the day care workers? union, the decision to transfer power could displace more than 1,100 children.
Union members add the centers that do remain open will see an elimination of transportation services as well as a replacement of trained professionals with teenagers. Many parents fear without the centers their children will become subject to violence, drugs and pedophiles.
