Residents inside a Bronx apartment building say they have gone weeks without a working elevator.
Carlos Angel reached out to News 12 for answers after an ongoing elevator outage at his building.
"Ten weeks, 10 weeks too long," shared Angel.
A sign on the elevator from Wavecrest Management in Highbridge reads that help is available to accommodate people up and down the stairs. However, Angel told News 12 there is only one porter for the building.
"There are people here who have walkers, canes - people with hip replacements. My refrigerator is half empty because I cannot carry all of these groceries ‘cause I had surgery on my shoulder last year," Angel explained.
The building is owned by Atlantic Development Group. A spokesperson with the company says that the elevator issues began in February.
“The scope of the required repairs is quite substantial. Given the extent of the damage, the work also includes elements of system modernization to ensure long-term reliability. These upgrades are expected to enhance overall performance and improve reliability,” a statement read in part.
The spokesperson also stated that the necessary materials and components have been ordered for repairs.
“Due to the complexity and extent of the damage, the repair process requires coordination among multiple parties to ensure that all work is completed safely, properly, and in full compliance with applicable codes and regulations,” the statement read.
Atlantic Development Group says that an evacuation chair (EVAC) is also available on site for residents with mobility issues.
