? All southbound lanes on the Bruckner Expressway were reopened at around 1 p.m. Friday after a tractor-trailer crashed into a foot bridge at Waterbury Avenue, causing it to collapse on the highway. Following the accident, cleanup crews were called to the scene to haul away the debris. All cars were redirected to a service road, backing up traffic for miles. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. Local residents say that the accident drove home decades of problems in the area of Pelham Bay, including congestion and accident backups. ?It's always an accident waiting to happen, especially since they've made the streets wider and brought it closer to the homes,? says Anne Schneider, a local resident. ?We're always worried about it.?Residents also expressed concerns about the growing number of trucks on the road in close proximity to their houses.?So many trucks pass through here that our emergency responders really don't know what's in them,? says Kenneth Kearns, chairman of community board 10. ?Last year we had a missile fall out of a truck.?
