Bronx park advocates are worried that more Bronx parkland near Yankee Stadium will be taken away from the community and handed over to real-estate developers.
The property at 151st Street between River and Gerard Avenues, which was once owned by the Parks Department, was reportedly handed over to the Bronx Parking Development Company by the city?s Industrial Development Agency last month. Now, the BPDC might lease the land to real-estate developers for a supposed retail facility.
Community members and advocates are concerned that, because the site was formerly managed by the city?s Parks Department, whoever builds on the land will bypass the city?s land use review process, which requires approval from the city?s planning department, the Bronx borough board and local residents.
