A car fire Saturday near Armonk sent flames about 20 to 30 feet in the air and temporarily shut down two lanes of traffic, according to a witness.

The witness says the incident occurred around 5 p.m. on I-684 South. Five to 10 small explosions were heard after fire crews and police arrived.

The witness says the car’s fuel tank ruptured, and flames spread to bushes on the shoulder.

The fire was eventually extinguished by first responders. The witness says there were no injuries.
