Current Carmel Town Supervisor Michael Cazzari is looking to defeat former Town Supervisor Ken Schmitt next Tuesday for the second Republican primary election in a row.
Cazzari, who received the party's nomination, ended Schmitt's 14-year run as town supervisor in 2021 in what ended up being a major election upset in the Hudson Valley. Schmitt holds the modern record as longest serving town supervisor in Carmel.
Cazzari hopes voters see what he has been able to accomplish during his first year and a half in office as he seeks a second term. His record includes installing cameras to catch illegal dumping on roadways, improving town-wide ambulance coverage, and addressing local water quality issues.
"We're about the welfare of the citizens, about being thrifty with their tax dollars, and keeping people safe," said Carmel Town Supervisor Michael Cazzari.
Schmitt said he has unfinished business he still has to do if reelected. He plans to reduce property taxes, increase downtown development, and improve infrastructure like sidewalks and roadways.
The winner of this race is likely to win the seat outright in November in a town that tends to have a lower Democratic turnout.
