A Town of Chester official who’s accused of shooting a lost DoorDash driver in the back has been released from Orange County Jail, according to online records for the facility.
Records show John Reilly, 48, posted bail Tuesday night.
Reilly is the highway superintendent in Chester. He was being held on $250,000 cash bail, $500,000 bond and $750,000 partially secured bond.
The official is accused of shooting at the 24-year-old male victim multiple times Friday night while the dasher was in his car and trying to find the right house to deliver food. Authorities say the gunfire struck the victim once, resulting in life-altering injuries.
The victim was seen in home surveillance video,
exclusively obtained by News 12, trying to deliver a bag of food to a neighboring house moments before the shooting, saying he needed help and was having problems with his cellphone.
Authorities said the incident happened outside of Reilly‘s home while he was off duty.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office says the case is expected to go before a grand jury.
Reilly is next due in Town of Chester court on Friday.
The victim’s family tells News 12 that he remains hospitalized but is recovering and “getting better by the day.“
